Folio. 315x195 mm. Legatura piena pergamena rigida, titolo in oro su tassello al dorso, tagli a spruzzo. Pagine 8 non numerate, incluso Frontespizio, 279, 1 non numerata. Marca tipografica di C. Wechel al Frontespizio e nella pagina finale, Iniziali xilografiche figurate, carattere romano. In totale 120 illustrazioni in xilografia, di cui 3 a mezza pagina (2 sul verso del Frontespizio e uno schema al foglio A6v). Tutte le altre a piena pagina. Il ritratto del Lanzichenecco al foglio A4v è ripetuto a pagina 182; ripetuta anche la xilografia alle pagine 106 e 107. Ex libris “Mario e Fiammetta Witt” incollato al contropiatto. Fori di tarlo abilmente riparati sui margini. Lievi bruniture e foxing, esemplare con ampi margini. 

Rara e importante edizione figurata, curata da Guillaume Bude. Oltre all’opera di Vegetius, sono pubblicate le opere di Frontinus ‘De Strategematis’ e di Aelianus ‘, Tacticus ‘De instruendis Aciebus’: questi testi riguardano l'organizzazione, la strategia e le tattiche militari antiche, con resoconti critici delle pratiche militari tra gli antichi Greci e Roma.
Il trattato intitolato "Modesti libellus De vocabulis rei militaris" è un falso di Pomponio Leto o di uno dei suoi allievi, basato sull’opera di Vegezio, e tratta dell’attacco e la difesa delle fortificazioni e sulle tattiche navali. L'opera vanta persino immagini fantastiche e macchine progettate per essere utilizzate sott'acqua.
Al Frontespizio compare l’indirizzo dell’editore “Apud Carolum Perier, in vico Bellouaco, sub Bellerophonte”.

Folio. 315x195 mm. Stiff vellum binding, gilt title on label on spine, sprayed edges. 8 unnumbered pages, including title-page, 279, 1 not numbered. Printer’s device on title-page and on the last page. Illustrated woodcut initials, roman type. In total 120 woodcut illustrations of which 3 on half-page (2 on title-page verso and a diagram on leaf A6v). the other illustrations are on full-page. The portrait of landsknecht on leaf A4v is repeated on page 182; also repeated is the woodcut on pages 106 and 107. Ex Libris “Mario e Fiammetta Witt” glued on the inside cover. Wormholes repaired on margins. Slight browning and foxing, specimen with wide margins.

Rare and important illustrated edition, edited by Guillaume Bude. In addition to the work of Vegetius, the works of Frontinus ‘De Strategematis’ and Aelianus Tacticus 'De instruendis Aciebus’ are published: these texts deal with ancient military organization, strategy and tactics, with critical accounts of military practices between the ancient Greeks and Rome.
The treatise entitled "Modesti libellus De vocabulis rei militaris" is a forgery by Pomponius Leto or one of his students, based on the work of Vegetius, and deals with the attack and defense of fortifications and on naval tactics. The work even boasts fantastic images and machines designed to be used underwater.
The publisher's address “Apud Carolum Perier, in vico Bellouaco, sub Bellerophonte” appears on the title-page.
