Rare edition edited by Petit of this fundamental Renaissance text, with commentary by astrologer and mathematician Pedro Cirvelo (1470-1548), which includes recent discoveries of the New World.
Cirvelo's commentary mentions how in 1491 (sic) King Ferdinand sent sailors westward to search for new islands, and how they returned with specimens of many strange birds, exotic ointments and spices, and gold, bringing with them strange, square-headed blue men. For a long time, this work was not recognized as an early Americanum and does not appear in Harrisse, JCB, or Sabin.
