16 complete years, up to 1840, year of conclusion of the first series, of this medical periodical, perhaps the most important appeared in Italy in those decades, which gave a strong impulse to the knowledge and medical studies throughout Italy, putting them to comparison with European medicine. The magazine began publishing in 1817, and continued until 1888. Annibale Omodei founded it and directed it until death, which occurred in January 1840. "Dadurch hat er sich um die italienische Medicin, die er mit den Arbeiten des Auslandes möglichst vollständig bekannt zu machen bemüht war, by grössten Verdienste erworben". (Hirsch, IV / 430). The first series began in 1817 and continued until 1840. In 1841, with other publishers, the second series was published 1841-1850.
