Rara prima edizione in seconda tiratura sulla storia dei rituali della crocifissione come punizione dei criminali non cittadini romani nell'antichità. 
Opera dell'importante filologo e umanista di Lovanio Justus Lipsius (1547–1606) che qui espone una terminologia da lui inventata per distinguere le diverse tipologie di croce usate per le esecuzioni capitali.

4to; 245x170 mm. Legatura in piena pergamena. Titolo in oro su tassello al dorso. Mancante del frontespizio e delle carte iniziali B1 e B2. 19 incisioni nel testo. Bruniture e piccoli difetti ai margini di poche pagine.

A rare first edition, in its second issue, on the history of crucifixion rituals as punishment for non-citizen Roman criminals in antiquity.
This work by the important Louvain philologist and humanist Justus Lipsius (1547–1606) presents a terminology he invented to distinguish the different types of cross used in capital executions.

4to; 245x170 mm. Full vellum binding. Gilt title on label on spine. The titlepage and leaves B1 and B2 are missing. 19 illustrations in the text. Browning and slight defects on margins of few pages.
