Kennedy: “In this work he is concerned with reducing the number of undefined terms to a minimum … It was in this article that he introduced the symbol ? for existence … This paper also contains remarks on Frege’s mathematical logic.” Frege e Peano hanno lavorato in modo indipendente su molti degli stessi soggetti in logica matematica utilizzando ciascuno il proprio simbolismo, ma solo la notazione di Peano è sopravvissuta ed è stata utilizzata nei Principia Mathematica.
