Rara edizione magnificamente figurata. Pubblicato ad Amsterdam, l’Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid “Il Grande Quadro o Scena della Follia” è una curiosa opera che consiste in una sorprendente serie di dipinti e caricature piccanti contro Law e il suo sistema finanziario, attraverso una serie di grandi incisioni con testo di accompagnamento in cui è satireggiata l'isteria di massa, l'avidità, la credulità e l'inganno che caratterizzano le bolle del mercato azionario. 

Il volume include opuscoli, documenti legali, analisi economiche, mappe, opere teatrali satiriche, poesie, carte da gioco e oltre settanta stampe. The Tafereel presenta una moltitudine di testi e stampe olandesi pubblicati sul tema delle bolle economiche e della mania speculativa, principalmente a scopo satirico. Lo scopo dichiarato del libro, come indicato nel frontespizio, era quello di trasmettere un "monito per le generazioni future", sebbene naturalmente si trattasse più in generale di una battuta ironica sulle bolle speculative e sui programmi per arricchirsi rapidamente, che erano una caratteristica persistente e prominente della vita olandese dell'epoca.

Harvard Library: “Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid references Tulipmania in the Dutch Republic, where the prices of tulip bulbs spiked and abruptly plummeted in 1637; the South Sea Bubble in England and Mississippi Bubble in France that burst in 1720; and other British, French, and Dutch enterprises that failed in 1720. Investing frenzy is characterized as a form of contagion moving from one country to the next: a consequence of the craze for international emulation as was evident in the English, for example, adopting the measures of John Law’s Mississippi Company that ultimately resulted in the South Sea Bubble. [65] Prints in the volume commonly depict the dreams, disordered states of mind, and moral failures of investors caught up in the speculative zeal—alluding to herd behavior, gambling, corruption, insanity, immorality, and demonic possession.”

Il volume è composto da 76 tavole, la maggior parte su doppia pagina o ripiegate, e comprendono: Antiporta, 1 doppia, 8 piccole tavole raggruppate e incollate su 2 fogli, 1 ritratto di J. Law e 3 mappe, compresa la carta del Mississippi. Le tavole sono montate su guardie.
